multiculturalism,in America IS a fact;what is NOT a fact,is the "melting pot" theory. No one "melts" into the empty American culture of mindless T.V. laugh-track sit-coms, baseball and football(little boy games played by grown men), lethal for you hotdogs, hamburgers, video games ,cheerleaders and pizza. Unlike rich European cultures, which existed for thousands of years,new-born America,in comparison, retains an immature not developed yet, paltry inane culture that cultures from around the world laugh at and see as juvenile and simply stupid. Multiculturalism is more than just truth,in America as immigrated Japanese, here, send their kids to Japanese school, after school,as do Jews send their kids to Hebrew school ,and Catholics to Catholic school, islamics, koreans, hindus and all separate cultures here, send their kids to separate cultural enrichments,as nobody really ever melts. Whole neighborhoods become locked in single immigrated cultures with store signs in their own language;to say that multi culturalism does not exist is to walk America, today with ones eyes and mind closed tightly. So is it equally blind to say;"You shall have no other gods before Me." Youre quoting a faulty source mistakenly accepted as the living word of God,when that book was also written by a single culture,5000 years ago. God is not a jealous God,as the Bible wrongly paints him.Your premise is based on the Jewish book of fairytales which through anthropomorphism, paints God with HUMAN feelings,in ancient mans honest yet silly attempt to understand God. All different religions are different roads to the one true God;youre banging your head against the wall and a hollow echo resounds,in this essay of blindness and illusion; With love,in Christ(who was, after all,a Jew);PaulThanks for your commentyoure most welcome;now, thats all that you have to say?!Yes, at my age I have found you do not argue right when some do not understand. You agree to disagree and go on. President Obama is not the first to state that.America is far from perfect, but its freedoms allow people to be self-indulgent or disciplined. Many cultures come here disciplined by absolute dictatorships or authoritarian rulers that don't let anyone think beyond the propaganda or even to move from where they are born. People are people. If people from other countries grew up here they'd be the same. It's not the people but the environment they grow up in that to a great degree determines perspective, and this American environment because of its great freedoms allows people to often make stupid and self-indulgent mistakes. But more come here than to any other country, so those great freedoms are certainly of merit and their draw or attraction proves it so. And as far as "locked in cultures" go, people are comfortable with the familiar, so they migrate there, as my mom's parents did when they moved to SE Mass. where the Portuguese majority live. This makes them nothing other than human, nothing else. And as far as what God says is concerned, unless you've spoken to Him directly recently it's mere conjecture that which has produced 20,000 different Christian sect. What is allowed, however, in this great country is to live according to one's interpretation. And I'd rather have people interpreting the greatness of God and Christ and following some version thereof (treat each other with love and respect) than to live a lawless, pointless existence. But, once again, if that's their choice so be it.here in the Land of the Brave and the Home of the free to choose. Thanks for your comment Jeff. I must agree with you. Thanks for the elaboration.
As Ive told you, before, its very important to walk in anothers culture and anothers religion BEFORE you criticize them;this way when you DO criticize them, youre a mile away and you have their shoes!Paul SchroederThanks for your comment
I'm not sure why multiculturalism would be considered a bad thing. Jesus seemed pretty tolerant of all cultures. Thanks for your comment
Hi Dr. Rucker.Thank you for your well-written article that vividly evoked the meaning of religious conviction. What is my religious conviction? It is the following:1. I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:2. And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:3. Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary:4. Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell:5. The third day he rose again from the dead:6. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:7. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead:8. I believe in the Holy Ghost:9. I believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints:10. The forgiveness of sins:1l. The resurrection of the body:12. And the life everlasting.Blessing to you.NenitaNenita, somehow I knew by your not wavering. We do, but are not suppose to straddle the fence and make it acceptable for all. Your comment is well received and I am with you. Thanks (A Remnant)you sadly only know what youve been taught and most if not all is faulty;youre certainly old enough,to clearly begin to think for yourself and NOT merely to simply repeat what people have drummed in your dear little head!
I have been a Christian for 26 years and, while I'm not a fanatic by any means, I am thoroughly disgusted with our nation and it's lack of conviction. The public display from gays is nauseating and I have a hard time explaining their actions to my 6 year old. This nation was founded on Christian principals and morals. It makes my blood boil to hear Obama tell other nations that we are a Muslim nation. It really makes me apprehensive of what will happen next!"It makes my blood boil to hear Obama tell other nations that we are a Muslim nation." He said we are a country with one of the largest populations of muslims in the world. It's estimated that the US has up to 5 millions muslims. Those snippets have pulled a lot of good people in. Then he added, "since we are a nation of diversity, what would it matters if I were a Muslim." (ALTnation) A.P.Thanks for your comments. ...smile...They snipped it from George Stephonopoulas. I would wonder why they wanted to snip it, but, being a Christian, you knew what it was like when Christ Himself preached peace.
great article and comments we are a diverse nation as is i believe God's will we should convict ourselves to do the right thing not because it is popular but because it is right"Absolutely" Steven you are so correct. There is no grey area, either you are right or wrong. I apreciate your comment, you understood what was written.
Listen, I'm only neutral because the god talk gets under my skin. I think it was well written, and I think it is great that other people have religious convictions, and are willing to write openly about them.I understand. All you have yo do is believe in right. God works with those that seek Him. Please, do not think I was born believing. Thanks for the comment...smile...However, I am glad it gets under your skin...smile...Clarence
