This Is My Family
This is my family, as an interpretation of my heart that deals/dealt with realities and imagination. Looking back, Six (6) brothers, five older, with two (2) sisters, and one younger. With a Father and Mother in tow, living life wisely and skillfully was always on the menu. Father (Daddy) would say: “boy, don’t go out there and give us a bad name.” Of course this is dealing with my every day life away from home.
Oh! I did wrong, (with fist) fighting and wrestling other boys in the neighborhood for respect, and afterwards you shake hands and become friends as equals. Our parents never found out unless one of the many relatives saw us. The first thing my daddy wanted to know was, “who won.” My daddy along with my brothers would say, “if you lost, you will get another whipping at home.” I won a few and lost less, but never started a fight. My father would always say, “do not be a fool out there, you may meet a bigger fool.”
With older brothers, my name was already made, so I did not have to fight often. The brothers were athletes and had the name built. My surroundings dealt mostly with morals and spiritual precepts. We were taught about God and that, “God was in man, working through man to get to man.” There was always a “Higher Incorporeal,” and that Christ was the “Highest Human Corporeal” concept of a divine idea. He was our example to walk after. Grant you; I saw it in my mother and aunts as examples.
They were not very versed in mimicry. They were real. Love backed by discipline kept me away from the jailhouse, from break-ins, from disrespecting of elders, from the courthouse of truancy, and from disrespecting my parents by having them to go to court. Somehow, it just felt wrong to do that to your parents.
All families have its risks, but to be isolated is not wise. We belonged to each other, and we needed each other. We may have had many family members/acquaintances, but we had a few close-knit family members (The same as friends). Too many family members may end up being troubling. But a true family with God will give you true family members who will stick close to you through life, as it should be, and as it has been proven to me first hand.
My real family members (remember: just because a kid is born to a man and woman, does not necessarily make the man and woman parents, they just had a baby) can be trusted and stayed with me when I was in trouble. My family loved me too much to pamper me and their counsel helped me to this very day. A good family is generational. Some do not make good family members. I had family members out of the immediate circle that tempted me to sin, glutton, drunkard, and gossip. I am thankful to the inner circle of family; that had Christ as their friend.
Growing up I was always taught to stay away from the fools. How did I know the difference? They were always bent on doing wrong and trying to get me to go along.
I was taught by the family to stray from the one that tells everything. My mother would say, “Their words cause strife and fights.” This is my family without giving breath-to-breath details. Enjoy.
