What Does God Require Of Us?

God's word is powerful enough for you and I to live out our faith. That is why God's word is Changeless in these Changeless times. If our lives neither do nor correspond to what our hands bring, to the prayers of our lips or to the words of our mouths, then the Lord has a problem with us.

If God has a problem with us, we surely have a problem.

So we ask, “ What does God require of us?”

To answer, I will try my best.

I would think, "to do justice":

The law codes of the books of Moses help us to spell out justice, not only to ancient Israel. The law had to deal with not taking advantage of our neighbor by using false scales, by not taking bribes, by treating the with mercy the neighbor in our midst.

God requires no less of us today. In our relationship with each other we are called to do justice, to treat all persons fairly. According to each dignity and respect. "All" includes black and white, rich and poor, old and young. The Lord requires us to build a community where every child has a chance to develop the gifts given by God. The latter statement could mean: "leave no child behind."

I would also think, "to love and do kindness”:

This requirement goes beyond the outward act to inner disposition. We often become like those we admire. If we respect power, then we focus our efforts to acquire power. If we covet wealth, then we bend our energies to get rich. We are to love, to appreciate, and to celebrate kindness, mercy, and compassion wherever it occurs.

Lastly, I would think "to walk humbly with Thy God”:

To walk with God is to carry God with us wherever we go, to invite Him to be our constant companion. It is also to go where God leads us. As you and I sing, "just a closer walk with Thee," it is not a summons for God to come with us but pledge to go where He goes.
